It has been announced today that a hacker has posted on an eBay Inc. online forum confidential information from some of eBay Inc.'s users including those that are selling on eBay. Some of this information was reported to be credit card numbers, however, according to eBay Inc. these credit card numbers don't appear to match the account information listed with them.
eBay Inc. confirmed this morning that "a malicious fraudster" had posted onto their forum the names and contact information of 1,200 eBay users. They go on to say that this "malicious fraudster" didn't obtain this information by hacking into eBay's network, but most likely obtained this information by use of a phishing scheme.
eBay Inc. is contacting any member affected, so these members can take action to protect themselves and their information.
Just remember, eBay doesn't ask for login or personal information through email, so if you happen to see any in your inbox, make sure to contact eBay immediately. Just remember that phishing scams like this target most large companies, but doesn't mean that it isn't safe to be selling on eBay.
